This is one of the favourite dishes of almost all Andhra people..... this goes superb vth potato fry/ aratikaya fry .....

I will tell you two ways of doing it .... one thats done at our home... the other at local hotels/mess....
INGREDIENTS:

INGREDIENTS:
- tomatoes chopped 4
- toor dal / kandhi pappu 1cup
- green chillies 4
- onion (medium size) 1 (sliced)
- red chilli powder 1tbspn
- tamarind lemon size( make it less if tomatoes are too sour)
- turmeric powder a pinch
- oil 2 drops(optional)
- water 1.5 cups(or till all these ingredients are covered)
- red chillies 3
- garlic pods 2
- mustard seeds 1 tspn
- cumin seeds 1tspn
- curry leaves 6
- asafoetida/hing a pinch
- oil 1 tspn
PROCEDURE 1:
1. Wash the dal properly.
2 Soak them for atleast 15mins.. The longer you soak, the faster it will cook.
3. Put all the ingredients mentioned in a vessel.......
4. Now add suffiecient water.
5. Now Pressure cook it well. for 5-6 whistles
6.. take out the lid and if it has water floating then put it on stove and make it boil.
7. add salt and mash the dal completely.
8. for tempering, take a pan/ tadka kadai , add oil
9. after its hot, add broken red chilles, garlic, mustard, cumin, hing, curry leaves .
10. now add this tempering to the cooked dal.....
11. serve hot with rice , fry and papads........
2. take a pan and ad oil.
3. now add all the items for tempering.
4. add chopped onions and green chillies and fry them for 2 mins.
5. now add tomatoes
6. Once the tomatoes turn mushy,
7. now add tamarind juice and red chilli powder.
8. add some water and add the cooked mashed dal and bring to boil ....
9. add salt and serve hot
